C. L. STONEBURNER DIED LAST FRIDAY
Charles L. Stoneburner, one of Edinburg's most useful and
respected citizens passed away Friday evening last, aged 68
years, 5 months and 17 days. Most of his life was spent in
Edinburg, where he was known and appreciated as a man of
many trades, for indeed he could turn his hand to most any
useful vocation.
He was a splendid stone mason and some of the walls in
this town as well as others, are monuments to his skill.
He was a charter member of Shenandoah Lodge I.O.O.F. and
one of its most valued members. He was regular in
attendance, and it is doubtful whether Shenandoah Lodge has
a member on its roster that attended as many nights as
Charley Stoneburner, and when it came to visiting the sick
he was never known to refuse to go regardless of time or
distance.
He was a member of the Methodist church, and was just as
ardent in his devotion to the church and its interests as
he was with other affiliations.
He is survived by four sons and five daughters, William
H., of Charlottesville, Russell of Youngston, Ohio, J. Lee
of Mt. Jackson, J. Ed. of Harrisonburg, Misses Mary, Mabel,
Ada, Alma and Laura at home. He is also survived by three
brothers, D. Fillmore, Samuel L., and Frank, all of the
Readus section.
Funeral services were held in the Methodist church on
Monday morning in the presence of one of the largest
audiences ever assembled in this church. Rev. C. T.
Collyer, his pastor, was in charge, Rev. O. D. Lambert, of
Stephens City, Rev. G.D. Kidner of Middleburg, and Rev. H.
S. Coe, of Edinburg assisting.
Interment was in the Cedar Wood Cemetery where the ritual
ceremony of the Odd Fellows was observed.
The pall bearers were: P. W. Barrick, Geo. W. Thompson,
B. A. Foltz R. S. Williams, D. M. Stoner and E. F. Coffman,
all members of the I.O.O.F. V. L. Dellinger of Mt.
Jackson, was the undertaker. -- paper & date unknown

CHAS. L. STONEBURNER EXPIRED AT EDINBURG
The death of Charles Lee Stoneburner Friday night has
deprived Edinburg and vicinity of one whom they will miss
more and more as time goes on. For it was by his
unswerving allegiance to his two rules by living-- "Be
courageous" and "Be helpful" that he endeavored himself to
all who knew him and won an enviable respect in the
community as was atttested [sic] by the unusually large
number of friends and relatives who paid tribute to him.
Mr. Stoneburner was born July 30, 1860 and lived here
until his death. Early in life he married Miss Laura V.
Carper, who preceded him to his grave five years ago. Of
this union there are nine children now living, who are left
to mourn his loss, but who have with them the memory of a
father who was known for his kindness and helpfulness to
others.
Funeral services were conducted Monday from the Methodist
Church of which he was a consistent member for yars. Rev.
C. T. Collyer and Rev. H. S. Coe of Edinburg, Rev. O. D.
Lambert, Stephens City, Rev. G. D. Kidner, Middleburg and
Rev. A.B. Sapp of Mt. Jackson officiated at the church.
Services were concluded at the grave where the local
chapter of Odd Fellows preformed the last rites for one of
their most faithful and active brothers.
His children, Lee, William, Russell, Edward, Mary, Alma
[no comma] Ada, Mabel and Laura and twenty-nine grand-
children survive him. He also leaves three brothers,
Samuel, Philip and Frank Stoneburner, of Readus and one
sister, Mrs. Kate Fox.
Among the relatives and out-of-town friends who attended
the funeral were::  [sic]
Mr. and Mrs. Howard Staples, Mr. and Mrs. Allan Legg and
Miss Cora Carper of Upperville; Mr. and Mrs. W. H.
Stoneburner and daughter, Myrtle, of Charlottesville; Mr.
and Mrs. J. Lee Stoneburner of Mt. Jackson; Mr. and Mrs.
J. E. Stoneburner and family, Mr. and Mrs. Hugh Stoneburner
of Harrisonburg; Rev. and Mrs. O. D. Lambert, Stephens
City; Rev. and Mrs. G. D. Kidner of Middleburg; Mr. and
