Because of the contradictory nature of the Catholic church in regards to
the Bible, we find most Catholics in confusion. They live as they will and
attend church on Easter and Christmas. Others who do attend more regularly
are there basically for the show.
As one person put it, "When I came of age to decide for myself, I saw it
as an All-Or-Nothing decision. I couldn't accept believing in part of what
my religion taught me, so I decided to take all or nothing. I examined it,
and disagreed with many parts of it, and so why I attend church, basically
for my wife's sake, I don't believe in it." [C.G.]
The strong hand of the Catholic church, especially in its schools, turn
off many of its own followers. It almost seems like brainwashing by force
and threats of eternal damnation, a fire-escape... if you will.
