Dan Fahs

Found a happy reminder of Dan Fahs this evening…

I happened to be cleaning my room with my wife, and we stumbled across an interesting little piece of paper from our visit to Epcot. Our good friend Dan Fahs passed away, and we left him a permanent memorial on the black megaliths.

Standing at the Spaceship Earth and facing the planter, go to the East side (it should be on your right). Next, walk in two rows, with the count starting at Spaceship Earth. From the planter, walk outwards to section ‘E’. In the lower left corner of each panel, there is a number, locate panel #7. Count upward six rows. Finally, pictures 3 and 4 to the right should be what you’re looking for.

Sadly, Disney seems to have pulled the Leave a Legacy locator site, so it isn’t possible to view the images online anymore.

  1. Could it perhaps be an eggplant?!

Years ago, the KGB (social group for CMU geeks who want to practice
safe sillyness) was going on a roadtrip to celebrate the opening of a
satellite chapter at Virginia tech. A group of folks that i knew were
going and i decided a roadtrip could be fun. One by one, they all
dropped out. By the end of the week, there were two people left:
Danny Fahs, the one person in the group i *didn’t* know, and me.
Danny wrote me: “So and so just backed out, and that leaves you and
me. If you decide to back out now, i will hunt you down and kill you.”
Of course, this left me slightly worried, but it turns out we hit it
on quite well and had a great trip.

I wish i kept in touch with danny when he left CMU…
    nevertheless, he is missed.

  2. Wow. It’s been 5 years since my brother Danny passed away, and for some reason, tonight I typed him into Google (Something I do from time to time) and Boom. Here is a message posted about him TODAY.

Thank you all for the bits you share. You are right, he is missed.

    Brian Fahs.

  3. Just found this post while searching for Danny online, and am sorrry to read he’s no longer with us. I had a long correspondence with him between 88 and 90 and really loved his work. What a talent to lose so soon.

  4. While cleaning out the attic today, I came across a caricature Danny drew of me while we both worked at counselors at Goshen Scout Camps back in the late eighties. Danny had such talent, so I Googled his name wondering what he had been up to. I am so saddened to hear he is gone, but happy he has managed to touch the lives of so many others. I will always treasure the art he made for me.

  5. It’s been too long now.

I googled Danny today after looking Rob B. up on wikipedia. I’m glad to find this page. Thanks for keeping it up!

  6. I was thinking about Danny earlier today; this is kind of a neat page, to see where people have continued thinking about him through the years.

    Quite definitely missed.

  7. I am trying to do a little research on Danny. Back in 1995, Danny penciled the original Stalker comic book for my Living Legends Comic Company. It was never published, but after 19 years, I’m including it in a graphic novel I’m putting together with a new Stalker story.

I want to talk about Danny in the intro to this story, but I never met him, having recruited him through a mutual friend. Anyone who might be willing to tell me more about Danny and help me out here, please email me at [email protected]. You can see a couple of Danny’s Stalker pages on my Kickstarter (don’t worry, it’s already completed successfully) at https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1086568316/stalker-donning-the-mask-graphic-novel/
